How to import assets into the 27k1 ISMS

About the procedure

This is the procedure for safely importing your company personnel, hardware, software and outsourced services into the 27k1 ISMS.

Principles

There are four special tables located at the bottom of the table list and prefixed with a “Z”. These are the tables your data is imported into from an external TAB DELIMITED text file or CSV.

Using Excel to export to a CSV file is found to be unreliable, if using Excel export to a tab delimited text file.

The data imported into these table will be selected within the 27k1 ISMS app and transferred to the ISMS tables.

The 27k1 ISMS does not use these tables other than for importing.

SQL Database Import Tables

The fields available to import data into are shown below. "DateTime" and some "int" fields require default values which are shown in the remarks column.

Hardware table - ZHardwareInventorys

Software table - ZSoftwareInventorys

Outsourced services table - ZOutsourcedServiceInventorys

Import procedure

It is recommended that the source file (from where data is imported from) is a flat file such as a comma delimited CSV file.

It is highly recommended not to import direct from Excel.

Step 1

Open the Management Studio and connect to your server.

Right click the database e.g. ISMSRiskManager and select Import Data (not Flat File).

Step 2

Select Flat File as the source.

Step 3

Browse for the File name to be imported. Select All files *.* to view all files in the folder.

Step 4

Click on the Advanced option and select each data field in turn:

  • set the corresponding Date data types to date[DT_DATE]
  • set the corresponding float data types to float [DT_R4]

Refer to the tables above for the specific data types.

Step 5

Choose the Destination as SQL Server Native Client, at the bottom off the list.
Enter your SQL Database user name and password. Ensure ISMSRiskManager is the selected database.

Step 6

Check the source is correct.
VERY IMPORTANT: Select the table with the Z prefix for the data to me imported to. We have chosen hardware in the example.
If you click Back this selection could reset when you revisit this dialog page.

This is a good opportunity to check that your imported data is in the correct format. Click "Preview" and check each row and column is as expected. If the preview is not correct then it is unlikely that the data will be imported.

Step 7

Click Edit Mappings… to check all looks good.

Step 8

Review Data Type Mapping.
It is important to check the Destination is set correctly and also change the On Error and On Truncation to “Ignore”.

Image

Step 9

If importing the data was successful you should see a dialog something similar to this.

Step 10

Check the data is successfully imported in the Management Studio.

If successful, open the 27k1 ISMS app and transfer the required assets to the Asset Manager.
